The AR1748 weighs in at 1610 grams which is a total of 330 grams lighter than the AR1747, the difference reflecting the changes to the internal power supply.

In other words, the new AR1748 has a 2-way power suppl y only, whereas the AR1747 had a 3-way power supply. The AR1748 does not have a standard 230 volt inlet socket for a standard A/C power cord, whereas the earlier AR1747 did have that socket, as well as a 9 volt socket. The change in configuration represents a departure from the previous model AR1747 which was a 3-way 230 volt direct AC radio. It is actually now a 9 volt radio powered by an external switching DC adapter which runs off 230 volt AC power, as well as six D size batteries for portability or if preferred, a batch of AA batteries. It is not however, because its configuration has changed. It is marketed as an AC/DC radio, which one would think is 230 volt mains and D size batteries for DC.

I was disappointed to discover that this radio is not a standard 230 volt AC mains radio. 9 Volt DC adapter-dependent Radio AR 1748
